Plantersville Christmas Parade is Saturday, Dec. 10, beginning 10 a.m. at the fire station. Plan to attend the annual Christmas celebration.

The Plantersville-Stoneham Bunch is hosting their annual 20 Guns for 20 Bucks gun raffle and ribeye steak dinner Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Grimes County Expo Center, 5220 FM 3455 Rd, in Navasota. Entry to the dinner is $25 per person. A limited number of tickets are being sold. Tickets are available at Donnie’s Day Care and Academic Center, A&I Water Well Services, Citizens State Bank, Yaya’s Floral, Allphin’s Insurance in Montgomery, Diane Phillips CPA Office, Beard Navasota Veterinary Hospital and Ponton’s Automotive. Table sponsorships are also available. Macedonia Baptist Church, 6957 CR206 in the Blackberry Community is hosting a Thanksgiving meal Nov. 24 at noon instead of collecting dry goods. The Voice of Democracy is a recorded essay that is open to grades 9-12 in which students can express their democratic and patriotic views. The theme chosen by the VFW Commander- in-Chief this year is “Why is the Veteran Important.”

The Patriot’s Pen is an essay contest for grades 6-8. The students submit an essay 300-400 words in which they share their patriotic view, ideas and knowledge of America’s history. The theme chosen by the VFW Commander- in-Chief this year is “My Pledge to Our Veterans.”

Additional information and online application for either contest is available at, https://vfwauxiliary.org/whatwe do/Scholarships. The deadline for submission is no later than Midnight, Oct. 31. This can be mailed to Georgia Molitor, Auxiliary President, P O Box 1573, Navasota TX 77868. They can also be dropped off at the VFW Post 4006, 1575 W. Washington Avenue in Navasota. Charm and Sewing 4-H Club has various ongoing community service projects.

• Through March 27, 2023, they are collecting pull tabs from beverage or canned food items. Eula Mae Leggett is in charge of the project. • Through May 22, 2023, Homeless care packages are being collected. Each member donates 5-quart bags filled with personal hygiene items including lotion, shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash. Bring to the monthly meeting. Torian Fair is in charge of the project. • Oct. 29 – Halloween Trunk-or-Treat; • Nov. 30 – KBTX Food for Families Food Drive; • Through Jan. 24, 2023 – Blanket Drive;

Mark your calendar for the 2022 Navasota City-wide Garage Sale on Nov. 5. Apply for your $5 garage sale permit by Oct. 27, at Navasota City Hall. Southern Charm Boutique and Salon in Navasota is partnering with Christian Community Services in Navasota to fill their food pantry. They began accepting items Sept. 15 and will continue to collect through Nov. 15. Let’s help our community! Drop off your food items at Southern Charm and for every two items you donate, you receive one entry into a drawing for a $100 Southern Charm gift card.
