Winner number 31 of the 2nd Annual St. Joseph’s Catholic Church 52-week gun raffle was drawn Sunday, March 27. The winner of a Glock 17, Gen 4, 9mm is Don Rushing of Coldspring. The next drawing is Sunday, Apr. 3.

The weather has been perfect. Spring is here and I’m excited to be outside without being bundled. I love that the days are getting longer for more outside fun! Soon it will be summer, and children will be out of school. Family vacations and other fun activities will take place.

Family vacations remind me when I was a little girl. Because of my parents owning a grocery store we only took one vacation a year. Because us children loved the beach, we went to Galveston each year. My mom would have us all packed and ready to head out when my dad closed the store on Saturday night about 9 p.m. We loaded in our black and white Ford Fairlane 500 and head to the beach all the way down Hwy. 75 (1-45 was not built yet).

We would arrive around midnight or later, so we could spend a night in the motel. On Sunday morning we would head for the beach (which my dad absolutely hated). After the beach we would go back to the motel to get cleaned up and change clothes and head for the souvenir shops. After souvenir shopping we would go eat before going back to the motel. My dad would load us sleeping kids back in the car around 4 a.m. and head back to Dobbin to get home just in time for dad to open the store back up for business Monday morning. It may have been a vacation for us kids, but it was not a vacation for my parents! But each year that’s what we did. Looking back, I realize our parents must have really loved us!

Anderson Food Pantry will be open to all Grimes County residents in need of food Thursday, Apr. 7 from 9 a.m. until noon. For more information, call Renee Fredwood, 936-973-5005.

Ken and Cindy Bell sold their building on the corner of FM 1774 and Main St in Anderson to the Millers. Cindy is in the process of sorting through her antiques and other possessions. She has tons of wine corks and would like to know if anyone is interested in them for any reason such as art projects, etc. If so, contact me, 936-870-6842 and I will connect you with her.

Dillon and Erin Hughes became new parents once again with the birth of a son, Eli Jackson Hughes. At 3:35 a.m., Eli was born Monday, March 21, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in College Station. He weighed 8 pounds 1 ounce and measured 20.25 inches long. The birth of Eli promoted Ella Grace to the status of big sister. Eli’s grandparents include Gary and Chris Bischoff of Shiro and Randy and Becky Hughes of Navasota. Congratulations to this sweet family!
