VFW contest deadline Oct, 31

The deadline for the Grimes County VFW contests; the Patriot’s Pen, Voice of Democracy and SMART Maher Teacher Certification is midnight, Oct. 31. Last week the White Hall Taxpayers Association met for their quarterly meeting. There were few members present, but the election of officers took place. Officers are: President, Michael Serres; Vice-President, Glenn Schroeder; Secretary, Gail Schroeder; Treasurer, Linda Robbins; Rental Coordinator, Mike Kurtin; Board of Directors include Mike Kurtin, Nelda Stutts, Dorothy Holtkamp, Vonn Herring and Georgia Molitor.

The Community Center, 14536 FM 362 can be rented by calling 936-825-0682. Future plans to make renovations are in the planning stage with one being voted on to complete. Leave a message and someone will contact you.

Courtney-White Hall 4-H had a good meeting on Sunday and their next meeting will be Sunday, Nov. 13. They will have another Bake Sale Fundraiser Nov. 19 at the White Hall Store beginning at 9 a.m. If you are nearby and need some good desserts, please stop by and help this group out.

Salem Lutheran Church met for the quarterly voter’s meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 11, with 17 members present. Many topics were discussed to include election of new officers, printer issues, updated resources for the Missouri Synod, the annual Fish Fry, VBS and other topics. The Fish Fry will be held March 24 at the White Hall Community Center, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tickets will be sold, in advance, and at the door. Mark your calendar to come and enjoy the fellowship and good food.

The Salem Ladies Circle met Wednesday for their monthly meeting. Pastor Christians began with prayer and a Bible study. As with other groups I am in, new officers were elected. All the current offi cers agreed to remain in their positions for another year. For the congregation, the monthly potluck will be held Nov. 13. The Ladies Circle will provide the turkey, ham, dressing, rolls, mashed potatoes, corn casserole, cranberry sauce and all the drinks. Please come and if you wish, bring a side dish or dessert. We look forward to celebrating with you.

Sonshine Sisters, the Educational building will not be available on Oct. 20, so we will meet Friday, Oct. 21, to have our fun.

Please add our sick and homebound friends to your prayer list. These friends include Mary Martin, Leon Gorney, Lois Bell, Jean Fleischhauer, Margaret and Pastor Schultz, Sue Kolojaco, Mary Bauer, Rosa Finke, Marilyn Frenzel, Delores Mitschke, Mary Whatley, Billie Wittenbach and Shawn Welch.
