More than 675 dogs, representing 115 or more American Kennel Club recognized breeds, will be at the Grimes County Fairgrounds to participate in the Brazos Valley Kennel Club Dog Show from Saturday, March 16, through Sunday, March 17. From the Akita to the Yorkshire Terrier, from the 200-plus pound Mastiff to the diminutive Maltese, dogs will be competing in conformation, obedience and rally events.

There will be an Obedience Match from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday evening. For more information on the obedience match, contact Susan Fontaine at 979-777-0607 or email

There will also be a Conformation B Match after Best in Show judging Saturday afternoon. Match entries will be taken from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. All un-altered AKC-registered dogs are eligible to participate in the Match.

Canine Good Citizen Testing will be done Saturday in the Obedience Ring after the completion of the Obedience Trial.

Award-winning barbecue will be available for sale on the show grounds. A variety of vendors will be on the grounds with dog-related products and services.

The popular raffle features items such as a hand-made quilt, baskets of doggy items, and a custom pet portrait by local artist Amy Thompson.

There will be a free coffee and donuts at 7 a.m. each morning until we run out, compliments of Brazos Valley Kennel Club and Shipley Donuts.
