HILLSBORO — Navasota held Hillsboro to a single point in the final period for the come from behind 37-35 win.
It was a back and forth affair with nine lead changes. The Lady Blue trailed 34-29 after three periods. Navasota’s defense intensified, setting up the final lead change and extending the Lady Rattlers’ win streak to seven games.
“This was a good win for this team. Anytime you can go on the road and come out with a win it’s a great thing,” explained Navasota Head Coach Tommy Gates. “Hillsboro is an athletic team that is well coached. They threw multiple defenses and presses at us. For the most part we adjusted well. I was proud that our kids kept their composure and we were able to finish.”
Ta’Shaunna Leigh provided the biggest scoring punch with 14 points. Kel’neisha Moore added 10 and Sha’Dimon King had six.
A trio of players scored two each, Tynasia Mock, Destiny Patterson and Shanquisha Curley. Jakayla Jones finished with one.
Navasota outrebounded Hillsboro 48-38, but had a couple more turnovers at 26-24. The Lady Rattlers connected on 14-48 (29.1 percent) of shots, while Hillsboro connected on 12-53 (22.6 percent). Navasota also shot 7-15 (50 percent) from the free throw line and Hillsboro was 7-9 (77.7 percent).
Coach Gate’s squad will have one final tune up Thursday and Friday, Dec. 27 – 28, before district play, competing in the Bur-net Holiday Classic. Times have not been determined.
