LAGRANGE — Since dropping a game Jan. 15 to Smithville, the Lady Rattlers have reeled off a trio of wins to remain in contention for a District 26-4A title.
Navasota put together an aggressive effort to pick up an important road win, defeating the Lady Leopards 47-41.
“We attacked their defense off the dribble, and we were able to get the ball inside where we had an advantage,” said Navasota Head Coach Tommy Gates. “Getting to the free throw line 35 times shows just how aggressive we were.”
Senior point guard Tynasia Mock played a huge chunk of minutes, sitting for only a minute and 27 seconds in the game. She bested the Lady Blue with 13 points. She finished an unbelievable 8-8 at the charity stripe.
Navasota connected on 13 of its 34 shots (38 percent) from the field and was 20-35 at the free throw line.
Defensively, Navasota limited the Lady Leopards to 16-62 (25.8 percent) shooting.
Savannah Stringfellow, Sha’dimon King and Kel’neisha Moore contributed with eight points each. Porsche Jones added six and Destiny Patterson and India Williams had two each.
Navasota outrebounded the Lady Leopards 46-33. Jones pulled down 10, Moore nine and Williams and King grabbed seven boards each.
“I was extremely proud of the way the kids came out tonight,” explained Gates. “We played harder than La-Grange tonight on both ends of the court.”
Navasota was back in action on the road at Bellville (results were not available at press time).
The Lady Rattlers will look for revenge on the road Friday, Feb. 1, at Smithville and return home for senior night Tuesday, Feb. 5, to host Giddings. Both games are slated for 6:15 p.m. tips.
