The Anderson Food Pantry will be open Thursday, May 2, from 9 a.m. to noon, and later that evening from 5 p.m. till 7 p.m. All residents of Grimes County are eligible to participate.

Come out and support the youth of our community. The Ag Booster Club of Anderson-Shiro will hold their annual fundraiser at the Grimes County Expo Center Saturday, May 4, 2019. A barbecue dinner and silent auction will take place from 6 p.m. till 8 p.m. A live auction will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person or $100 for a table of eight. A dance with music provided by the Desert Roads Band will follow the live auction until midnight. The event is BYOB. For tickets call Kari Lynn Eisenman at 936-825-5311. Proceeds benefit the Anderson-Shiro FFA program by giving scholarships and furnishing other FFA needs that the school doesn’t cover.

The St. Stanislaus Spring Fest usually takes place the first Sunday of May each year and this year is no different. This fun event will be held Sunday, May 5, at the St. Stanislaus Parish Hall from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. A hamburger and hot dog lunch will be served. Activities include ring toss, cake walk, train rides, joy jumps and more games and booths. There will also be a live and silent auction as well as a raffle. Raffle prizes include: $400 American Express gift card, 55” Sharp Class 4K Ultra Smart TV, Nintendo Switch, Apple iPad 6, iRobot Roomba Vacuum, $150 Grand Station gift card, Hoverboard 65 Electric Scooter and a $100 American Express gift card. All proceeds benefit the CCE program.

The Anderson VFD’s annual fundraiser is set for Saturday, May 11. This event includes a rib-eye steak dinner for $15 per plate. Serving begins at 6 p.m. A live auction will take place at 7 p.m. and the 10 Guns for 10 Bucks raffle.

Mark your calendar for the upcoming Knights of Columbus Crawfish Boil set for May 18, beginning at 11 a.m. at the KC Hall in Anderson.

Fifteen CCE students at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Anderson made their First Communion Sunday, April 28, by Fr. Eli Lopez. They included Sofia Aguinaga, Kelli Belinowski, Myles Borski, William Borski, Noah Busa, Daisy Hernandez, Juan Hernandez, Jace Kimich, Harper Korenek, Wyatt Otto, Elena Prado, Tomas Prado, Asher Sopchak, Emmy Walkoviak and Nolan Womack. A big hand for their teachers: Susan Wisnoski, Debby Kimich and Laura Korenek. Kirby Borski is the religious education director.

The American Legion Post 640 in Anderson is actively seeking new members. This organization meets the second Monday of each month at 5 p.m. in the old Legion building across the street from the Anderson VFD at 415 Hill St. Next meeting will be Monday, May 13.
