Whitehall News

The reading of the Declaration at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4006 to celebrate July Fourth was interesting. Brent Cahill, Kathy Cave Wells, Marilyn Bettes and Quartermaster Carl Dry read, and everyone was offered a time to ask questions. I know Larry Eickenhorst and I caught on to the parts that we were really concerned about, but I am not so sure that either of us would make a good Representative or Senator.

News from the Texas

Pickers

Thanks to all who came out Saturday and helped make our eighth year Anniversary Sellabration a smashing success. Nancy Snell’s “Good Time Eats” sold out of salad bowls, brisket burgers, dogs and veggie tacos by 2 p.m. in the new air-conditioned Whitehall Café. Wesley Barlow, Wes Nickerson and Daniel Holmes had the hill hopping. The “Free Beer” keg was bobbing by 2 p.m.

Queen of Hearts VFW

benefit

There wasn’t a winner in the Queen of Hearts game at Whiskey Tango, but Hip Shot band was good. We will be back this upcoming Saturday.

The WHCVFD sold approximately 200 sandwiches at the first Saturday fundraiser. Thank you to all the loyal customers who not only buy the sandwiches but also to those who donate extra to the cause. If you live in the area and want to join with us, please let me know and I will pass on the information.

Sunday was the baptism of the great grandson Rhylan. He is such a good little baby, but I don’t know how he didn’t cry with everyone passing him around. I can’t even remember who all held him in church, I know I sure did. His sponsors were Kacie Lawrence, Kaleigh Evans and Jordan Fields. Jordan was the one chosen to hold him for his special day. He also held Rhylan’s big sister Ellie. Not everyone could come for lunch at the house, but I am happy that some of us could be together for the ceremony. As for that pacifier that bounced back several rows in church, I sure hope Bean or Chucky didn’t offend any ladies by “hunting” under the pews.

If you are one of my high school classmates, please contact me regarding our upcoming class reunion. I refuse to type the year in this column. I do have it on Facebook though. You may also contact classmates Delores Baldobino or Vincent Ruiz.

The Whitehall Community Center met Thursday for their quarterly meeting. About 13 members were present to discuss upcoming projects needed for the hall. If you are interested in an older place for reunions, birthday parties, etc. please call the reservation line 936-825-0682.
