Keith News

We certainly have had bad weather the last couple of Saturdays. We had around 3 inches of rain and about 8 a.m. the skies became very black and I didn’t know what was going to happen.

There was a cedar tree hit by lightning and branches broke off and fell into the Evergreen Cemetery. The following Saturday April 13, there was more rain and more of the cedar tree was broken off. All is now cleaned up thanks to Rev. Jeff Morgan pastor of Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church and the diversion crew from the Grimes County jail. The tree will eventually have to be completely taken out. A large limb also broke in the center of the cemetery but thankfully missed the new Evergreen pavilion.

The Grimes County Tax Assessors office located on West Buffington in Anderson, is now accepting boat and motor transactions as of April 5. Anyone from any county can come into the office to have their boat registration renewed or to transfer ownership. Hope that this will be a big help to our residents.

Area residents are reminded that the Keith Civic Club will have their monthly meeting Thursday, April 25, at the Keith Community Center. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a covered dish meal and will be followed by their business meeting. All area residents are invited to attend.

The membership of Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church had a good Sunday morning service April 14. Following the service there was a covered dish meal with all kinds of good eats and an Easter egg hunt for the children. There were lots of eggs and lots of children having a good time.

The Orphans Friend Masonic Lodge No. 17 will have their monthly meeting at the lodge hall in Anderson Monday, May 6. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. with a covered dish meal. The lodges business meeting will follow at 6:30 p.m. All Masons are invited to attend.

There will be a garage sale at the Orphans Friend Masonic Lodge Hall Saturday, May 4, at 8 a.m. All sort of good items will be sold including items from the old Keith store.
