Keith Civic Club bake sale a sweet success

The annual Bob Davis family reunion was held at Camp Sonshine Friday and Saturday, April 19 and 20. A good number of family members attended, and a good time was enjoyed by all present. Some people such as Danny Davis were not able to attend due to illness or other reasons. The family plans to come back again next year. The last time the family was together was a few months ago when Rev. Bobby Joe Davis passed away. His funeral was held at the Carlos Missionary Baptist Church and his burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. His widow Barry Sue Davis was present with other family members.

The funeral of Lena Mae Bruce Jarvis age 87, was held at the Martin’s Prairie Missionary Baptist Church, in Keith Tuesday, April 23, with Mitchell Beene in charge of the service. Members of the Iola North Zulch Order of the Eastern Star No. 458, handled the burial ceremony. She was a member of that organization as well as the Martin’s Prairie Church. Bruce was born Dec. 14, 1931, in Grimes Switch, the daughter of Melvin and Edna Marie Allen Bruce. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Van Jackson Jarvis, who passed away Sept. 4, 1963. Her body was laid to rest beside her husband in the Martin’s Prairie Cemetery. Do remember her children and other family members in your prayers. Following the burial, lunch was served to the family members and friends in the churches fellowship hall, formerly the church’s church building.

Several area residents attended the Sunrise Service in the Zion Methodist Cemetery Sunday, April 21, with the Io-la Missionary Baptist Church in charge of the service. Their pastor, Rev. Tim Owens brought the message. Renew Point Church served breakfast. There was good attendance for the service and breakfast.

There will be a skeet shoot Sunday, May 5, at the home of Tim and Katherine Carson, 14025 CR 164 (The Old Rock Road) beginning at 1:30 p.m. The shoot is sponsored by the Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church. There will be a drawing for guns and other items following the shoot. All are invited to attend.

The Keith Civic Club bake sale at the Gibbons Creek Shell Station Saturday, April 20, was a success. Lots of good cakes, pies, candy, muffins and other baked goods were brought and sold for the benefit. Thanks to all that donated and purchased items. The money raised will help the club with various expenses and projects.

Area residents were sorry to learn of the death of Mary Aalund, a former Keith resident who passed away Sunday, April 14. She and husband Carl who passed away several years ago were longtime residents. Do remember her children and other family members in your prayers.

Area residents were also sorry to learn about the passing of Joyce Annette Gorbet Yeager 86, of Iola. She passed away April 20. She was born March 10, 1933, in Iola. She was the daughter of Joseph and Myrtle Anna Worsham Gorbet. Her funeral was held at the Iola Missionary Baptist Church with the church’s pastor, Dr. Tim Owens officiating. Burial was in the Pankey Cemetery. She was an employee of the Iola Community State Bank, where she served as the banks vice president. Following retirement, she continued to work their part time. Do remember her loved ones in your prayers.

Happy Anniversary to Stephen and Jean Biggs, married April 28, 1987. Bobby and Adell Dirickson Arnold married May 1, 2010. We wish them many more years of happiness together.
