Congratulations to George Washington Carver on the dedication of their historical marker.

The city of Navasota is sponsoring Independence Daze and Parade from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. There will be free swimming, food and fun.

Barrington Living History Farm, 23400 Park Road 12 in Washington, Texas is hosting an 1850 Independence Day picnic July 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Guardian Angels of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Plantersville is sponsoring a five-day, four-night trip to Biloxi and New Orleans Sept. 23 through 27. The price is $499 per person based on double occupancy. A deposit of $74 was due in May. Contact Nancy Schlottman, 936-597-8327.

I’m sorry to announce the “Old Ship of Zion” play at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church in Magnolia is postponed until after the director’s daughter’s surgery. I will keep you updated with a rescheduled date and time.

A Freedom Festival will be held Saturday, July 6, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in historic Montgomery, Texas. There will be a parade, barbecue cookoff, baking contest etc.

“Cheers to Craft Beer” will host its fifth annual event craft beer tasting in downtown Bryan July 20, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event features beer tastings inside of downtown retail stores and restaurants. St. Mary Catholic Church in Plantersville will celebrate its 125th Homecoming Bazaar Sunday, Sept. 1, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The church is located at 8227 CR 205.

American Idol will be in Houston for auditions
