Storm causes damage locally

Many attended the annual Mid-South Synergy meeting in Huntsville Friday, June 14. This was the 79th year of the meeting. Several won prizes. Sad to say I was not one of the winners. Congratulations to all that won.

There were several in attendance at Robert Barney Clary’s funeral at Cross Baptist Church Friday, June 14. Clary, 96, was born March 6, 1923, to Walter Lee and Mary Massey Clary. Clary passed away June 10, 2019. He first married Laura Mildred Clary who proceeded him in death and then married Zelma Folks Rister who he leaves behind. He is also survived by other family members including his children and grandchildren. Rev. Munroe Rice officiated the service. Burial followed in the Cross Cemetery. Following the service, family members and friends were served a meal in the church’s fellowship hall. Remember his loved ones in your prayers.

We had a storm that blew through the area late Sunday evening, June 16 that did a great deal of damage. Lots of trees were destroyed and structures damaged. Some people reported as much as 4 inches of rainfall. Members of the Iola Volunteer Fire Department were out removing trees off roadways. Camp Sonshine had some damage including part of the ceiling of the kitchen falling in. They were planning to have camp this week but that had to be canceled.

There was a work crew at Evergreen Baptist Church doing clean up work to prepare for vacation bible school that started the next day. Thankfully everything was cleaned up and bible school went on as planned. Thanks to all that assisted.

The Sowell Family Singers from Tennessee played and sang in front a full house of members and visitors at Evergreen Baptist Church Sunday, June 16, for Father’s Day. They were well received and enjoyed by all present. All present had a blessed day including the fathers that were recognized by the church and given popcorn.

The monthly meeting of the Keith Community Center/ Keith Civic Club will be Thursday, June 27. The meeting will begin with a covered dish meal at 6:30 p.m. followed by the business meeting. All are welcome to attend.

Word was received Wednesday, June 19 that Beverly Cobb Moore passed away. I do not have information of her services currently. She will be buried in the Evergreen Cemetery by the grave of her mother Mary Lois Rice Cobb. Remember her family in your prayers.

David and Janice Crenshaw attended their son Cody Crenshaw to Janet Grimes, Thursday, June 6, in Idaho Springs, Colorado Other family members attended the wedding as well including Ben Crenshaw and wife Tracy and his sons Andrew and Adam. Join me in wishing them many years of happiness together.
