Navasota Police Department wanted a way to give back to the community they serve so NPD Operation Blue Santa (OBS) was launched.

The community rallied to help officers through donations so they could assist children in need. Navasota Independent School District provided the names and wish list of children that may not receive gifts without assistance from OBS.

An “Elf Committee” was formed and they used the money raised to shop for families in need. With the tremendous outpouring of support through donations and volunteer efforts, 30 NISD families were assisted in the first year of Navasota Police Department’s OBS. In addition to the gifts, each family received a family care package consisting of toiletries.

Organizations such as Navasota GearUp and District 13 Representative Ben Leman’s family assisted Wednesday, Dec. 18, with a “wrap party” where all the gifts to be distributed were wrapped by volunteers.

Families visited Blue Santa Monday, Dec. 23, at the Navasota Center and received their gifts. Those who were not able to make it had their gifts delivered to their homes.

Once the event concluded, Blue Santa loaded in a patrol car and went to visit other children throughout Navasota spreading Christmas cheer and posing for photos.
