Students were evacuated from Navasota High School to Navasota Junior High following a bomb threat just before 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12.

Navasota Superintendent of Operations Dr. Ronnie Gonzalez stated that a note with a possible bomb threat was found and NHS principal Kristi Ramsey notified School Resource Officer, David Ellison of the situation. Ellison notified Navasota Police who began to assess the situation and conduct a sweep of the building.

According to Navasota Police Chief Shawn Myatt, “no viable threat was discovered.” He stated officers reviewed camera footage and no one was viewed entering the room in which the note was found so it is unsure when it was written and placed in the room. “The school was still pretty much locked up and most rooms were still locked,” stated Myatt. “more than likely, however we don’t know for sure but by looking at the camera system there wasn’t anything to indicate this happened today.”

Myatt stated during a sweep of the building officers looked for anything that may be suspicious, but nothing was found. The investigation is ongoing, and Myatt said they will review more camera footage and attempt to find out who left the note in the building.

Gonzalez stated students returned to the classroom and to a normal schedule at 9:50 a.m. “We will continue to investigate this incident by speaking to teachers and students and viewing our security cameras. We will continue to work with Navasota Police to investigate this incident further and try to see who was involved in this hoax,” explained Gonzalez.

Navasota ISD posted information of the presumed threat on their Facebook page as well as the school website during the incident. Gonzalez said once the building was cleared and students returned to class, a recorded phone call notifying parents of the incident was created and scheduled to go out at noon the day of the incident.
