The George Washington Carver Alumni Association, GWCAA, held its “Stepping into Spring” fashion show and dinner fundraiser, Saturday, April 13, at the Carver Community Center, 1602 South LaSalle in Navasota. Men, women and children models were volunteers from the community, while a silent auction featured more than 50 beautiful, fancy hats, perfect for spring.

The Rev. George Ward gave the invocation and grace. GWCAA speakers were President James C. Moore, Treasurer Ruby Hamilton and Mary Mable, Public Relations Chairperson. Other speakers were Pearl Warren Cooper and Marleigh McGinty.

Solos were song by Zakija Gentry, of San Marcos, and her daughter Zaila Gentry. God’s Warriors of Stonehamville United Methodist Church and Pastor Carolyn Robinson performed a moving praise dance directed by Ynesha Franklin. Many hands made the evening fun and successful with a special thanks going to Mark McGinty for his “delicious barbeque.”

GWCAA, a 501(c)(3) organization, provides scholarships and finances the Carver Community Center, which among other things provides after school tutoring for K-5 and homework assistance. To send a tax-deductible donation, checks should be made to George Washington Carver Alumni Association and mailed to: Jay Sargent, Financial Secretary, P. O. Box 63, Stafford, TX. 77497.
