At the Aug. 14 meeting of the Grimes County Commissioners Court, Pct. 1 Constable Dale Schaper and the court recognized that “longevity of life is a blessing for an individual and for a community.” Schaper presented Singleton resident, Alvin “Jack” Cronin a Proclamation signed by Judge Joe Fauth designating Aug. 8, 2019 as Alvin “Jack” Cronin Day in honor of Cronin’s 100th birthday Aug. 8.

Cronin was born in Macedonia, Texas, north of Dayton in Liberty County. A lifelong Texan, he owned and operated a welding business serving the oil field and construction industries. Cronin purchased property in Grimes County in 1965 and became a full-time resident in 2000 where he continued his welding operation and even found time to add “farmer” to his list of accomplishments and responsibilities.

In addition to his healthy sense of humor, Cronin has four children, 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren.
