ANDERSON- Loud sounds of tambourines, shakers and various other noisemakers announced the presence of the Anderson-Shiro Consolidated ISD Education Foundation at Anderson-Shiro Schools, Wednesday, April 24.

Members of the education foundation patrolled the halls with large checks in hand surprising teachers and students with money to supply various needs and wants to increase the learning within the district.

Funding will be used to purchase an array of items from 3D doodle pens to virtual reality learning programs.

Education foundation president Erna Freeman said there were 36 applicants and 20 recipients this year and the foundation was able to disperse over $30,000.

The foundation originated in 2013, and since its inaugural year the foundation has handed out approximately $150,000.

Freeman who is a retired teacher, taught for 35 years. “This year we didn’t do any partial funding,” said Freeman. “We paid 100-percent of the cost of the applicants that we funded.”

According to Freeman the education foundation is funded by businesses and individuals. She also said they have an annual dinner with a silent and live auction with the proceeds benefiting the foundation. This year’s dinner is Oct. 19, at Bill Tomas Ranch.

Individuals seeking more information about the education foundation, wanting to find out about the fundraising dinner or to make a donation is urged to contact Erna Freeman via email, ernafreeman@gmail.com.
