A new program in Grimes County aims to help Grimes County residents in a time of need or disaster and now they have a new trailer to hold and carry tools and supplies to the locations needed and will allow sponsorship logos on the trailer to help fund projects.

Anderson resident Charlie Diggs, owner of Charlie Diggs Entertainment and Promotions, said he was approached by Anderson Baptist Church pastor Kyle Childress. “He said since I have a large platform of people behind me and experience in raising funds, he thought I might be interested in helping to start a Foundation that would assist Grimes County residents in a time of need or disaster,” said Diggs.

Diggs said he would love to be a part of Childress’s idea and Helping Hands of Grimes County was formed. Diggs decided to auction off an autographed wrapped guitar from the artists performing at the 2019 Anderson Holiday Fest, an event that he founded in 2018.

“I told Pastor Childress the funds from the auction would go to the Foundation,” said Diggs.” Childress expressed the foundation needed a trailer. The guitar auctioned for $2,800 onstage at the Anderson Holiday Fest, and Childress decided it would be good to purchase a clean 24-foot enclosed trailer that Diggs located.

Diggs said he added a little extra money to purchase the trailer and decided to go and have it wrapped with decals of the Helping Hands logo. “I stopped by Texas Star Propane and to see if they would like to sponsor the trailer since they are the Title Sponsor of the Anderson Holiday Fest, and they loved the idea and wrote a $500 check to the foundation.”

Bull Printing Wraps and Graphics also decided to sponsor half the signs on the trailer. The trailer and check were presented to Helping Hands Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Helping Hands is planning a spring break project of building a house from the ground up for a single mother who fell on hard times. The Foundation is approximately $500 short on the house building project and the goal is to find sponsors that will sponsor the Helping Hands trailer with sponsorships of $500 to $1,000 each.

The Foundation is also planning a Kickoff Party Steak Dinner Fundraiser Friday, Feb. 21, at Anderson Baptist Church from 7 p.m. till 9:30 p.m. for $25 a ticket. Live music will be provided by Heather Rayleen.

Tickets may be purchased at Anderson Baptist Church, Borski’s A ntiques, and at Kotts Café from Dana Dobbs.

“Pastor Childress has a lot of experience in these types of projects and I believe what he is starting is a great thing to get behind,” explained Diggs. “Anderson Holiday Fest will continue to assist the foundation each year.”
