Staff from the City of Navasota Street and Sanitation Department are still at work cleaning up debris and leaves from city streets while adhering to the recommended CDC guidelines.
City Manager Brad Stafford explained the twofold purpose of street maintenance saying, “We clean streets for aesthetic purposes, and it helps keep storm drains clean. Fortunately, the sweeper is operated by one person at a time, so we are able to maintain the social distancing that is required during this time.”
He continued, “I would like to remind citizens of the importance of not placing leaves and grass clippings in the street or gutter as they will clog drainage systems. Everything that is in the street or gutter will end up in the storm drains when it rains, and eventually will clog the drainage system which will increase chances of flooding due to improper flow.”
