Looking into 2020

This year I intend to keep my resolutions, unlike some of the previous years. With that in mind, my resolutions will be to broaden my knowledge base (specifically, to binge-watch all the Netflix series). Plus, I’d like to venture out and try new things (e.g., go to Brookshire Brothers and sample all the new flavors of Bluebell Ice Cream). And lastly, I will use 2020 as a springboard to my future financial security (I will play Texas lotto each week). These are my goals and I will do my best to stick with them.

It’s the beginnings of the great 20s, and our Elections team couldn’t be more excited! In 2020 we want to focus on Voter Education- making sure our county knows where and how to vote, as well as what each election is for. Our country was founded on the voice of the American people, and in 2020 we want to focus on just that, the voice of Grimes County. Our Elections and Voter Registration team will partner with our local parties to meet voters at their events and visit our local high schools to get our new voters involved. Our motto is Grimes County Votes! So, we will make sure that we live up to this by ensuring each and every adult in our area has the option to make their voice count.

1: Keep it simple and make it fun.

2: Remember that everyone has their own beliefs

3: Don’t sweat the, “Small Stuff”. 

4: Recall Sam Houston’s words, “Do right and suffer the consequences.

5: Work real hard on resolutions #1 - #4.

It has been said that history is not contained in books, it thrives and lives in our very blood. In Grimes County our history lives and breathes through the families that still reside in our county, and the wind that blows through our historical sites. John Dalberg- Acton once said, “History is not a burden […] but an illumination of the soul”.  The history of our community serves to light the path for our future generations, and for 2020 the Grimes County Historical Commission plans on doing just that. Our Commission will work hard to involve our community and tell the great story of our forefathers through events, live interviews and community meetings! We look forward to what 2020 brings, and to continue carrying our stories forward!
