The Grimes County Commissioners Court met in a special meeting at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, and approved a request to allow the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office to purchase a patrol vehicle with seized assets and transfer leftover funds to the district attorney’s office.

GCSO Chief Deputy Todd Greene told commissioners, “We seized a 2016 GMC Denali with 30,000 miles at the Middlelands festival concert. It’s been in court hearings and with the assistance of the DA’s office, they will get that vehicle awarded to us.”

The Middlelands was a three-day Electronic Dance Music festival that took place in May 2017 at the Texas Renaissance Festival fairgrounds in Todd Mission. The GCSO was besieged with complaints about the noise and 42 arrests were made primarily for Ecstasy, LSD, cocaine and marijuana.

Greene continued, “We plan to trade it in to buy a patrol vehicle for the sheriff’s office and the remaining funds will go to the DA’s office.”

In response to questions about the type of vehicle under consideration for purchase, Greene said they are looking at a Ford SUV or Chevy Tahoe.

Commissioners Chad Mallett and Barbara Walker were not present when court convened but County Judge Joe Fauth III noted for the record that a quorum was present with 60 percent of voting members in attendance. Mallett did arrive later and voted on the last three agenda items that included the vehicle purchase.

In other business, the county:

•approved consent agenda items that included the treasurer’s list of claims and bills and payroll;

•recognized Assistant Treasurer Sinda Phelps for five years of service; and

•declined to reinstate the burn ban.

Upcoming events:

•March 10, Sunday – Blood Drive and Pancake Breakfast at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Plantersville, 8 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

•March 28, Wednesday - 11th annual Special Olympics at Rattler Stadium, Navasota.
