Driving around the campus of Navasota High School and Navasota Junior High, one might wonder exactly what is going on.

There is a full-blown construction zone with demolition happening daily. Welcome to Phase II of the NISD bond project. Phase II is part of a three-phase bond project that is providing new buildings and renovations throughout the district.

In a short video on the Navasota ISD website, Navasota ISD Superintendent Dr. Stu Musick highlighted some of the important changes that have begun this summer.

Tennis courts located behind the high school are being demolished to make room for a driveway. The Career and Technology Education Center (CTE) will be located where the existing driveway is. Musick said that Grimes County Road and Bridge is hauling the debris from the tennis court demolition and using it throughout the county to prevent erosion.

There are three portable buildings at the high school that will be removed to make room for the new science wing. “Those buildings are still of value to us,” stated Musick. “They are still structurally sound and will received new siding, carpet and interior updates.” Musick said the building will be moved to other campuses within the district until they can begin renovations.

Once those portable buildings are removed a six-foot hole will be dug to begin preparation for the foundation of the newly planned science wing.

Demolition is also moving rapidly inside the Vocational Technology building. Ceiling grid and skylights are being removed. The lights remain in place currently so that workers can see throughout the demolition process but will be replace. The building will receive numerous updates inside and out including a new roof and a new HVAC system.

Musick warns the appearance may not be appealing currently with so much ongoing construction, but it is all a part of the process and will be worth it in the end.

School bond construction updates can be found on the Navasota ISD website navasotaisd.org .
