Program Director Vonda Morrison presents Navasota mayor, Bert Miller, with an award for the city’s participation in the Workforce Solutions Brazos Valley’s Teacher Externship Program.

The summer program is open to middle or high school teachers/counselors and provides an opportunity for exposure to different components of the participating businesses. Teachers/counselors work with business staff for three days a week in an office setting or out in the field, depending on the business, and create lesson plans for their students that demonstrate the relationship between academic knowledge, workplace skills and the needs of local employers. The teachers/ counselors also receive a stipend through Workforce Solutions.

The City of Navasota has participated for three years and joins other local businesses like Trinity Heads, ErgoGenesis, Ellwood Texas Forge Navasota and Texas Pipe Works, Inc. in providing this unique opportunity. Navasota ISD is the only Grimes County school district, and one of only seven districts in the seven-county Workforce Solution Brazos Valley area, participating.

Miller said, “We want to encourage our teachers to do this and also encourage the businesses in the area to participate.”
