A rolled 18-wheeler caused a five-hour delay Thursday, Jan. 16, in Navasota.

Navasota Police and Fire Departments responded to Farm to Market Road 379 across from the Heritage Meadows subdivision at approximately 12:30 p.m.

The driver of the 18-wheeler tractor-trailer, Alejandro Acevedo-Herrera, didn’t suffer any injuries. Navasota Police Chief Shawn Myatt said Herrera stated that he pulled to the side of the road to allow an oversized load to pass and his truck lost traction causing it to tilt to the side and roll into the ditch.

Herrera was hauling scrap metal at the time of the incident. Navasota Fire Chief Jason Katkoski said the hydraulic oil tank on the truck leaked approximately 15 gallons of oil onto the ground and motor oil from the truck also leaked onto the ground. A hazmat company was called to perform cleanup and soil remediation.

FM 379 was closed for multiple hours finally opening around 6 p.m.
