A social media post on Instagram Tuesday night March 26 led Navasota ISD administrators to a case of old fashioned “telephone” rumors in regards to a possible threat at Navasota Junior High School.

“According to campus administration the student in question has not made any threats toward the school or students,” said Superintendent Dr. Stu Musick in a press release Wednesday morning. “This is misinformation that has been fabricated by rumors.”

The district released further information Wednesday evening stating that they had identified the student who began the rumor shared on Instagram and that the student “acknowledged their involvement in creating this rumor and has made a statement retracting their prior allegation of an alleged threat made by another student against the school.”

Navasota ISD has District administration contacted Navasota Junior High staff and the Navasota Police Department regarding the false claim and will continue to investigate the incident. NISD said that they will also continue to take all necessary precautions to keep all students and staff safe while at school.

“We thank all students, parents, and community members that have brought this concern to our attention, allowing us to investigate and address any concerns,” said Musick, cautioning parents and students to contact administration if they ever hear or see something out of the ordinary. “The safety and well-being of students and staff is the top priority of Navasota ISD and misconduct of this nature will also be addressed and handled appropriately.”

According to Navasota Police Chief Shawn Myatt, the incident is currently being handled by the district as a disciplinary administrative action and no charges have been filed in regards to the false claims made on social media.
