PLANTERSVILLE- A video surfaced on social media claiming an alleged case of animal cruelty involving dogs.

Grimes County Sheriff’s office initiated an investigation immediately after learning of the alleged mistreatment through the Facebook video.

According to Grimes County Investigator Lt. Daniel Wagnon, there is an undetermined number of dogs, but it is estimated to be anywhere between 9-20 dogs located on a wooded lot on Hollyknoll Drive in Plantersville, chained to trees. Wagnon said no houses are located on the lot, the dogs are just being housed there.

“Based on our investigation we were able to obtain a seizure warrant for those dogs this morning,” explained Wagnon.

Wagnon stated that an animal rescue group from Houston has agreed to take custody of the dogs. He said the dogs will undergo an evaluation by a veterinarian to receive their determine if this is indeed a case of animal cruelty.

Next week their will be a hearing with the judge that issued the seizure warrant to determine if the dogs will be returned to the owner or if custody will be awarded to the shelter.

Updates will be posted as they become available. For the full story read the Sept. 25 edition of The Examiner.
