Mary Bernice Jones, 86, of Navasota, died Friday evening, February 25, 2022, at Navasota Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Calling hours will be held from 12:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2022, at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Truevine Missionary Baptist Church, 1005 Nolan St., in Navasota. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery

Serving as pallbearers will be Herman Boggess Tracy Steptoe Christopher Steptoe Byron Boggess, Chadrick Hall, Channon Hall, Ronald Robinson and Charles Boggess. Honorary pallbearers are Jenmaine Robinson, Michael Robinson, Stepfan Jones, Ronnie Jones, Leon Bundage, Jr., Kenneth Jones, Vincent Jones, Derick Jones, DeJuan Jones and Cedrick Jones.

Bernice, the fourth of ten children, was born on June 3, 1935 to the late Jobie and Annie Bell Jones. She was born, raised, and educated in Navasota, Tx. Bernice was quite young when she met and married the late Otis Boggess, Sr. Eight children were born to this union: four boys and four girls.

Bernice accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age along with her elder siblings. In adulthood, she was a member of Missionary Camp Baptist Church in Navasota, TX under the pastorate of her uncle, the late Rev. Paul Jones, before relocating to several cities in both Texas and California. Throughout her various residences, Bernice always found a church home and was last affiliated with St. Mark Community Church in Vallejo, Ca under the directorship of Pastor Charles A. Brown until poor health prevented in-person attendance.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Jobie and Annie Bell Jones; sisters Irene Ussery, Mattie Mae Jones, and Bertha Porch; and brothers Eugene Jones, Lonnie Jones, and Johnnie Paul Jones.

Left to cherish her memories are daughters Linda Steptoe of Navasota, Diana Boggess of Santa Barbara, CA, Jocelyn Hall (Charlie) of College Station, and Cynthia Boggess Johnson (Timothy) of Vacaville, CA; sons Otis Boggess, Jr., Michael Boggess (Gertrude) both of Houston, Obie Boggess (Linda) and Reginald Boggess both of Navasota; sister Mary Bundage of Houston; brothers Joebie Jones (Vivian), Larry Jones (Dora) both of Houston, and Ell V. Jones (Alice) of Navasota; sisters-in-law Ethel Jones and Fay Jean Jones both of Houston; brother-in-law Hubert Porch of Houston; eighteen grandchildren, forty-five great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren, and host of nieces, nephews, family, and ,friends.
