Carmen Irene Norwood, 73, of Navasota, was softly called home, Saturday, December 24, 2022, after complication resulting from congestive heart failure, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in College Station.

A gathering of family and friends began at 9:00 a.m. followed by funeral services at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 7, at Lindley-Robertson- Holt Funeral Home with Rev. C. McAllister “Mac” Vaughn officiating. Interment followed in Lake Grove Cemetery in Iola.

Carmen was born Sunday, July 10, 1949 in Bryan to Ralph and Maxine Quillen Norwood. She was a very loving, fiercely independent woman. Carmen spent much of her life working and raising her children, making sure they had more than they needed and was a fantastic mother. Carmen was proud to be liberal, but still went to bed every night alongside her gun and Bible. She enjoyed planting, reading and education, particularly about medicine and government. Carmen loved animals.

The oldest of seven children, Carmen was raised in Iola and Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers James William and Richard Earl Norwood and a sister, Hazel Marie Norwood.

Survivors include her children, Tracy Nicole Holtz and Ralph Aaron Gaston; siblings Carl Wayne Norwood, Liese Lavonne Allen and John Allen Norwood and 6 grandchildren.
