The Homegoing Celebration of Sister Dorothy Jean Lee Stewart (October 3, 1929 – October 6, 2019) was held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Salem House of Blessings Ministries, 1515 Sycamore Street, Navasota, TX 77868. The Rev. Charles Tompkins, Sr., Pastor and the Rev. T. O’Brian Berry officiated. Arrangements were entrusted to Frazier-Mitchell Funeral Service of Houston.

Dorothy Jean (Lee) Stewart was born in Navasota on October 3, 1929 to Benjamin (Pank) and Martha Lee. She was the seventh of eight children, six boys and two girls. She attended Navasota George Washington Carver High School.

She was reared in a Christian home. At a young age, she joined Salem First Missionary Baptist Church, where she was baptized by Elder West. Salem First Missionary Baptist Church became Salem House of Blessings, where she remained a faithful member until God called her Home. After moving to Houston to live with her daughter, she attended Greater True Light Missionary Baptist Church.

Sister Lee had a servant’s heart. She served as President of the Ruth Circle (a Mission Society/Bible Study group of young women) organized by the late Pastor H. A. Stephens. She also served as President of the Senior Choir and as the Children’s Matron. Her service extended into the community as Treasurer for the Salem Cemetery. Her genuine concern for the welfare of others and her reminders to others of God’s grace will be a part of her legacy.

She married Louis Clarence “LC” Stewart.

Dorothy was preceded in death by both parents, and siblings Ulysses, Clifford, Melvin, Walter, Dora Ella, James and Robert Calvin.

She leaves to mourn her passing a daughter, Patricia A. Lee; a devoted nephew, Michael Gould (Mary); nieces: Ula Mae, Ruby Joyce, Gladys Melvern, Connie, Bettye, Mary Helen, Peggy; nephews: Edward, Lester, Ulysses, Jr., Titus; extended family members, Wilma Kirk, Walter & Katie Broughton, and other relatives and friends.
