Mrs. Dorothy (Kurtz) Gast, 84, passed away Friday, September 4 at her home in Bryan. Visitation with family and friends was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, September 7, at Nobles Funeral Chapel. Rev. Edward Kucera conducted a funeral mass celebrating her life 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stoneham. Rite of Commital was in the church cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.

Dorothy was born January 27, 1936 in Henkhaus, Texas to William B. and Josephine (Michalec) Kurtz. She attended Evergreen School and graduated from Moulton High School in 1954. Dorothy married David G. Gast on October 23, 1954 and together they raised three daughters. Dorothy loved to can the vegetables that her husband grew in his garden. She also worked full time and retired in January, 1997.

Dorothy is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Mike O’Dell of Montgomery, Donna and Dennis Zatopek of Bryan and Debbie and Don LaFitte of Iola; two grand daughters, Ashleigh O’Dell Davis and husband, Randall and Deena LaFitte McClure and husband, Norman; two step-grandchildren, Ken LaFitte and wife, Mary and Linda Nelson and husband, Mike; ten great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband David G. Gast; five sisters and five brothers.
