James Robert “Jim” Hale, 85, of Iola, died at his home in Iola on Sunday, May 1, 2022.

Graveside and Masonic services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Lake Grove Cemetery, County Road 161, Iola, with Rev. C. McAllister “Mac” Vaughn officiating.

Jim was born in Cushing Oklahoma to John Milton Hale and Myrtle Agnes Nunnally Hale. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps where he distinguished himself as a rifle coach and a member of the Corps Rifle and Pistol Team. After 5 years of military service, he worked in sales management and marketing in the automotive and petroleum industries. On retirement he moved to Iola where he and his wife, Cricket, operated JC Hale Cattle Ranch. Later, they opened The Singleton Store followed by The Liquor Store next door. Jim was a member of the Masonic Lodge #276 in Oklahoma City and the Valley of Guthrie Scottish Rite for over 54 years where he was a 32nd Degree Master Mason. He was also a Noble of the India Shriners of Oklahoma City.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Ila “Cricket” Hale.

He is survived by his daughter Sandy Hale-Schoen, daughter Terry Hale and son-in-law John Liestman, and grandchildren Adeline Liestman Hale and Ellery Liestman Hale.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Shriners Hospitals or The American Cancer Society.
