LAVADA BROUSSARD WALKER

Lavada Broussard Walker, 84, native of Whitehall (Retreat), TX, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2022. She was born on August 8, 1937, to the parentage of Angeline Steptoe Broussard Willis and Isaac Broussard. She was also raised by Andrew Moore, who was known to all as her father. Lavada’s mother later married Isom Willis who also loved her as his own daughter.

Lavada accepted Christ at an early age. She joined the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where she was baptized by the Late Rev. L. N. Neal. In 1967, she became a member of the Beth Eden Baptist Church. In 1976, she moved her membership to the Bon Air Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas.

Lavada attended the Navasota George Washington Carver Elementary School. On May 21, 1952, she was recognized as the eighthgrade valedictorian. She graduated in 1956 from the Navasota George Washington Carver High School and earned a Bachelor (1960) and Master (1966) degree from Prairie View A&M College.

In 1960, Lavada’s teaching career began at the CLW (Courtney, Lynngrove, Whitehall) Elementary School. She later moved to the Navasota George Washington Carver Elementary School where she taught until 1967.

On June 13, 1962, Lavada was united in holy matrimony to Robert Walker, Jr. In 1965, this union was blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Kimberly DeVette.

In 1967, Lavada and her family moved to Dallas, Texas. From 1967 to 1993, she was employed with the Dallas Independent School District.

She was preceded in death by her mother, fathers, and husband. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Kimberly Walker Brown (Daniel); numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at the Bon Air Baptist Church of Dallas.
