This month has passed by so quickly. Before long, I will have to start thinking about the upcoming holidays and a theme to decorate “Big Mama.” What was I thinking? I believe I can wait on that.

About my calendar, if you want me to add your name to the birthday and anniversary list, please let me know. With that in mind, Happy belated birthday to Chief Vickers who celebrated June 29. It’s a big one but I won’t add the number because I am not too far behind him.

Please keep Margaret Finke in your thoughts and prayers. She was hospitalized in Bryan on Sunday. I just found out that she has returned to her home.

Rose Wise is a good friend of several in the Whitehall community and she has asked for prayers for her husband, Garry Wise, who is very ill. His children are planning a benefit to help with expenses, and I will keep everyone posted as I find out information.

It was a “hot” night at the Whiskey Tango last Saturday. Not only was there not a winner of the current Queen of Hearts game but there also was no electricity. The power company said something about a fuse. Thanks to several of the local people who found a generator to get air circulating. Since we did not need lights to sell tickets, we continued our game and those loyal friends of ours continued to buy those tickets. The electricity finally came on around 8:45 p.m., and the band set up and everyone continued as if it was a normal Saturday night.

Gaining new members for the VFW Post and Auxiliary is a challenge but I am happy to say that we have gained three per group. If you are a member, come out and join the fun. Our new Commander is Tony Lambert and he too encourages veterans and family members to join.

Relatives of soldiers, please contact me if you have someone deployed at this time. There is a young lady who has a passion for sending care packages to these men and women. Her brother recently joined the military and she wants to help. Locating addresses has been a tough job and I can use some assistance.

About seven of the Diamonettes were practicing at the post when Maxine and I were working on the museum. Can you believe they all giggled when Maxine and I tried to follow a portion of one of their routines? Humm, if I were them, I probably would have giggled too.

The Grimes Veteran’s of Foreign War Post will have their annual reading and discussion of the Constitution July Fourth. Please consider bringing your family, especially children, to this event. We should begin around 4 p.m. and I understand that refreshments will be provided.

Don’t forget the WHCVFD sandwiches, Sonshine Sisters, Texas Pickers and last, and Salem Lutheran Church. We have lots to offer in our little community of Whitehall. Hope to see y’all soon.

Our sick and homebound friends include Sue Kolojaco, Lawrence Lieder, Dorothy Mahaffey, Mary Bauer, Lillian Shimshack, Albin Finke, Charles Waters, Rosa Finke, Leonard Serres, Lois Bell, Rickey Binford, Charles Wellman, Margaret Finke, Pastor Wayne Schumpe, Dianna Hemann Randermann and Alexander Hanna, grandson of Curtis and Darla Kolojaco. Please add them to your prayer list.
