Kaleb Wisnoski has been a middle reliever for the Northeast Texas Community College baseball team.

The Navasota High School graduate had a 0-1 record and 4.32 earned run average in six appearances heading into Thursday’s play. His longest outing was two innings, which he had done three times, while his shortest appearance was one-third inning.

The freshman figured middle relief would be his role based on how he pitched during the fall, when he said he tried to sharpen his curve-ball for this spring. Wisnoski also throws a two-seam fastball and changeup.

The left-hander’s toughest outing was his debut, when he allowed six hits and three earned runs in two innings of a no decision. When he has had trouble recording outs, he said he was not locating his fastball.

Since his debut, Wisnoski has been effective. He struck out a season-high four in two hitless, scoreless innings against Pratt. “Just keeping the ball low,” he said about the key to managing hitters.

More baseball

Brookhaven College pitcher Trent Clark had a 1-1 record, a team-high two saves and a team-best 1.04 ERA in six relief appearances. He played for Navasota.

Out of Anderson-Shiro High, Paris Junior College pitcher Josh Mancuso had a 2-1 record and 7.36 ERA in five appearances.

Pitcher Dalton Acosta, a former Rattler, had a 1-1 record and 5.87 ERA in four games for University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

LeTourneau University freshman Jaggar Vaughn hit .188 in six games. The Iola High product drove in two runs.

Women’s golf

University of Arkansas at Monticello sophomore Skylar Mast finished 29th at the Badger Invitational. The Richards High graduate shot 254 (89-81-84) to place fifth among the Blossoms.

Women’s indoor track and field

McNeese State University sophomore Malaiya Jedkins earned all-Southland Conference recognition at the conference championship. The Navasota alumna finished third in the triple jump with a career-best effort of 40 feet, 10.5 inches, good for all-conference third team. She was part of the 4-by-400-meter relay that placed fourth and finished 10th in the long jump.
