The Navasota Rattlers struck first and struck fast on a night that they paid tribute to the 1990 3A Basketball State Championship team, by rolling past the Smithville Tigers 72-33.

Navasota opened the lead early and only allowed the Tigers to score double-digits (10) once in four quarters. Smithville was held to six in the first, eight in the second, 10 in the third and nine in the final quarter.

Four Rattlers scored in double-digits with Tavarus Baker leading the way with 16. DG Henderson finished with 15, followed by Ja’mar Jessie and Keith Steptoe with 13 each. Others contributing to the scoring were Donovan Thomas with 7, Cash Douglass 4, and La’darrin Thomas and Jerran Carr with 2 each.

Navasota played at Giddings Tuesday, Feb. 11, (results were not available at press time). The Rattlers host Caldwell Friday Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. and play at La Grange Tuesday, Feb 18, to finish district play.
