Speaker discusses fentanyl at Plantersville Town Hall

Fentanyl-related deaths are on the rise and many families are being impacted by the dangerous drug worldwide. Plantersville Town Hall hosted Dr. John Spiers Feb. 26 at High Point Elementary in Stoneham to educate Grimes County about the dangers of fentanyl.

Over 2 hours to decide spelling bee champ

The Grimes County Scripps Spelling Bee was held Thursday, Feb. 15 at the Brosig Performing Arts Center in Navasota. First place winners from all 10 Grimes County elementary and junior high campuses were present for the final competition. The spelling bee was especially challenging this year, lasting two hours.  After 47 rounds, 186 words, and over 2 hours of intense competition, Daniel Suara, a Navasota Junior High student, was named the spelling bee champion.

Supporting a cause in the cutest way

The annual Paws for a Cause commenced March 3 at August Horst Park in Navasota with plenty of furry friends and community members. Participants enjoyed a nice walk with their four-legged friends. Some dogs received awards. The proceeds benefit Grimes County Relay for Life.

Interlocals under review by county

 Grimes County commissioners reviewed expired Interlocal Agreements with the incorporated cities of Bedias, Iola, Plantersville and Todd Mission and approved new ILAs for Bedias and Iola at the Feb. 28 Regular Meeting but not without a word of caution from County Attorney Jon C. Fultz.
