KINGSLAND — After shooting three over par on day one of the UIL 4A State Golf Championship, Navasota freshman Natalie Nobles parred the course on day two to place third.

Navasota senior goalie Juan Vargas and Navasota head coach Brian Lopez represented the Rattlers and Region III at the TASCO All Star game at Blossom Athletic Center in San Antonio. The Region III all-stars defeated Region IV, 4-3. Vargas had multiple saves in the win.

Boerne ended Navasota’s season in a two-game sweep in the 4A area round, 6–1 and 10–0.

Dear Editor, Agents of change, 

There are two agents of change. The first is voting power, and the second is buying power.

Two descendants of Micajah Byrd, an 1820 Early Texan of Austin’s Old Three Hundred, each received a Daughters of the Republic of Texas Medallion April 5, with a brief ceremony at the Navasota Oakland Cemetery Chapel.

As East Texas residents return to clean up their homes and businesses after extensive flooding earlier this month, the Texas Department of State Health Services urged residents and business owners to exercise caution. Among the recommendations:

Friends and citizens of Readersville, this story is about another one of the misadventures from my youth. You might recall from a previous article that my family and I lived on a college campus when my dad was teaching there. This was during the mid- 70s and life was good. My big thing after I got home from school was to either go exploring on my bike with some other kids or to spend some time in what I called the “jungle.”

Born on June 27, 1934, under the Texas sun, Etta Mae Sargeant Smart, affectionately known as “Chip,” embarked on a life journey filled with love and faith. Raised in Navasota, Texas, she held her roots dear as she gracefully concluded her earthly voyage onApril 25, 2024. Leaving behind a legacy of unwavering devotion, Chip’s presence continues to illuminate the lives of those touched by her love.
