Anderson-Shiro PTO Fall Festival Friday

The Anderson Baptist Food Pantry will be open Thursday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. until noon and later in the day from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. The food pantry is open to all Grimes County residents who are eligible to participate. The Grimes County Mobile Food Pantry will be at the Grimes County Expo Center Thursday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. until noon. You must be a resident of Grimes County to participate and proof of residency is required.

The Anderson-Shiro Elementary Fall Festival will take place at the elementary school Friday, Oct. 4, from 5:30 p.m. till 8 p.m. The evening will consist of games, prizes, mechanical bull, food, silent auction and a live auction beginning at 7 p.m. Come out and bring your children to enjoy fun and fellowship and help support the school as well.

The Anderson-Shiro Jr./ Sr. High Library will be hosting the 2019 fall book fair with the help of the NHS National Honor Society members. The book fair will be open in the library Tuesday, Oct.1 through Friday, Oct. 11, beginning at 7:30 a.m. each day. Check out the school’s website, for a complete listing of times available to shop.

During the book fair a couple of special events will be held. On Monday, Oct. 7, from 4 p.m. till 6 p.m. will be the “Fall into some Good Books” event. Check out the book fair and join them for pumpkin decorating. On Thursday, Oct. 10, is “Fall Family Night” from 4 p.m. till 7 p.m. Check out the book fair and join them for some refreshments and prize drawings.

Everyone is encouraged to help meet the book fair sales goal of $2500 by Friday, Oct. 11, at 4 p.m. All proceeds will go toward new books and the reading incentive program. You can also go on the website, shop online for a larger selection now through Oct. 12. This is a perfect event to do some early Christmas shopping.

Evelyn Szymczak is announcing the flu shots will be given at the Grimes County Senior Center on Main Street in Anderson Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 1:30 p.m. till 2:30 p.m. Take advantage of this event to help you stay “flu-free” for the upcoming flu season.

The annual St. Stanislaus Catholic Church bazaar is set for Sunday, Oct. 13, on the church grounds in Anderson. The Sunday morning Mass will begin at 10 a.m. and a barbecue dinner will begin at 11 a.m. There will be games and booths for all ages, homemade and handmade items as well as their 150-year history book will be for sale in Babusha’s Porch, a live auction, tours of the 1917 Polish church and live Polish music and dancing with Brian Marshall and the Texas Paradise Band. “The Faces of Grimes County” that was to be presented in Anderson Oct. 15 by Wendy Watriss and Fred Baldwin has been postponed until the spring of 2020.

More events coming up in October is the Knights of Columbus Spaghetti Dinner and Gun Raffle Friday, Oct. 18, the Anderson-Shiro Education Foundation annual fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 19, and Anderson’s Trunk or Treat Saturday, Oct. 26.
