“Get Healthy” at Anderson Senior Center

The Anderson-Shiro high school blood drive is set for Wednesday, Jan. 29, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the gym. Please consider giving the gift of life. For more information, contact the high school, 936-873-4550.

The Grimes County Health Resource Center will present a free workshop “Let’s Get Healthy,” at the Senior Center on Main Street in Anderson. They will offer fun exercises for all fitness levels, eating healthy on a budget, great tasting healthy snacks and prepared dishes and much more. This workshop will be presented every Friday starting at 10:30 a.m. from Jan. 31 to Feb. 28. Don’t miss out on this free opportunity to get healthy!

Zion Lutheran Church in Anderson has not had a permanent pastor since pastor Kermit Bostelman was called to Louisiana nearly two years ago in July 2018. On Sunday, Feb. 2, at 4 p.m., Zion Lutheran Church will have the installation of their new pastor, Rev. Richard Lamb. After the installation service, there will be a meal served. The community is welcome to both.

St. Mary/St. Joseph will once again host a 13-week GriefShare program on Tuesdays beginning Feb. 4 through April 28. These sessions will be held in the Family Life Center at St. Mary’s in Plantersville in Room 202 from 10 a.m. till noon. The program welcomes all who have experienced the loss of a loved one in their life. The foundation for the program is based on community, understanding, support and encouragement. Our Facilitators understand and have experienced what you are currently going through. They will offer comfort and encouragement during this difficult time while sharing the knowledge to help you move forward. GriefShare teachings are biblical based on grief and recovery topics. Anderson-Shiro Elementary is announcing the upcoming Daddy-Daughter Dance set for Friday, Feb. 7, from 5:30 p.m. till 8 p.m. This special event will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Anderson. The cost is $20 per couple and $5 for each additional girl. Tickets bought at the door that evening will be $15 per person. You can also purchase a printed photo for $5. Dads, grandfathers, uncles or a special person in our pre-K-fifth grade girls’ life are invited to join in for a fun night of dinner, dancing and desserts. A pasta and salad dinner will be served from 5:30 p.m. till 7 p.m. followed by a sweet dessert buffet. St. Mary’s Guardian Angels seniors’ group will host their fifth Annual Sweetheart Valentine’s Senior Concert and Dance Friday, Feb. 14. The event will take place from 7 p.m. till 11 p.m. in the parish hall at St. Mary’s in Plantersville. Come and enjoy the music of Bill Mock and the Highway 105 Band featuring Country and Pop hits of the 50’s and 60’s. You may choose to sit and just enjoy the music or better yet, relive the past with your “SWEETHEART” on the dance floor. Cost of this great night of fine entertainment is $10 per person.
