The annual meeting of the Martins Prairie Baptist Church Cemetery Association will meet at the Martins Prairie Church for their Memorial Day service Sunday, Sept. 1. The meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. All sorts of activities are planned for the day. The history of the Trant family has been in Grimes County since 1850. Robin has done extensive research on her family and she will do a fine job. She is the daughter of Harold and Rosalice Trant and the granddaughter of Bob and Sallie Trant. There will be special music, a devotional by the churches pastor, brother Gary Roe and other activities. There will also be a short business meeting. Following the service those present will enjoy a time of fellowship over a covered dish meal under the pavilion and fellowship hall. Plates, cups, forks and ice will be provided. If you are unable to attend and would like to donate to the cemetery, send donations to Martins Prairie Baptist Church Cemetery Association care of Darlene Lavender, 14389 FM 244 Iola, Texas 77861. Do make plans to attend.

There was a celebration of life for Iola resident, Thom-my McDougald who passed away Aug. 8. There were two services held in his memory. The first was a service held at the Concord Cemetery near Iola where he was buried Friday, Aug. 16, and the second service was the following day at the Iola Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member. Both were well attended. He was the son of C.R. and Dora McDougald both of whom preceded him in death. His wife Barbara also preceded him in death in 2015. He was certainly a wonderful man and will be missed by all who knew him. Following the memorial service all present enjoyed a time of fellowship over a covered dish meal. Do remember his sons, Troy and Skip McDougald and other family members in your prayers. Dr. Tim Owens, pastor of the Church was in charge of both services.

Upcoming services for the Orphans Friend Masonic Lodge No. 17 will have their monthly lodge meeting at the lodge in Anderson, Monday, Sept. 2. The meeting will begin with a covered dish meal at 6 p.m. and will be followed by their business meeting. The following day the membership of Bedias Masonic Lodge No. 651 will have their monthly meeting. Their covered dish meal will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the lodges business meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. All masons are invited to attend either meeting.

Rev. Jeff and Diana Moran and children Baylei and Tanner spent a week on a Caribbean cruise. They left around Aug. 10 and returned home Saturday, Aug. 17. All looked wonderful and had a special week away from home.

Jean Biggs has just returned home from a trip to other states to visit family members. She had a good time. Bet her husband Steve was glad to see her home.

There was a good size crowd at the prayer walk at the Iola School Sunday evening, Aug. 18 to pray for the upcoming school year. Different groups went all over the school area and prayed for the students, teachers and other school workers. May God bless them all.
