January is Cervical Cancer Awareness month. Nearly 13,000 women in the United States are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year, but according to cancerhealth.com, the disease is virtually always preventable with vaccination and appropriate screening (Pap and HPV tests).

Deadline to apply for the Willie Mae and Charles Bevin Scholarship is Feb. 15. You must have a 2.75 GPA and be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours. Contact Prairie View A&M for more information.

Midsouth is conducting a survey for internet service in our area. They came out to my area and informed us they were looking at the poles so they can install fiber optic lines for their own internet service. To find out more information or to register visit www.midsouthfiber.com.

There will be a Democratic Party Rally Monday, Feb. 3, from 5:30 p.m. till 8:30 p.m. at 615 W. Virginia Street in Navasota.

Veterans needing flu shots can get a free flu vaccine at Walgreens until March 31, 2020. To receive the free vaccine, veterans need to have their Veterans Health ID card and have one other form of ID.
