Anderson News

On Wednesday, Jan. 15, my sweet and precious 85-year-old mother, Dolores Hoffart of Dobbin, left this earthly world. I would like to thank everyone who either called, emailed or texted me with condolences. She was a very special and unique person not only to her family but to those who knew her. My mom had a wonderful and fulfilling life and enjoyed every moment of it. As much as we will miss her and her sweet and loving smile she is now where she has longed to be for many years. My mom loved her God and her church. As a passage in 2 Timothy 6-8 says: “I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith.” We now have another angel in Heaven to watch over us.

A 90th “come and go” birthday party was thrown for John Sowell at the Navasota Nursing and Rehab this past Saturday afternoon. Approximately 50 family and friends were on hand to celebrate his special day.

News from the Anderson-Shiro Elementary

Mrs. Strahan, Mrs. Mock, Mrs. Smith and Ms. Lara’s classes all enjoyed a cinnamon roll and hot chocolate party Thursday, Jan. 12. These four classes earned the party by having the highest percentage attendance at the Christmas play evening performances this year.

On Friday, Jan. 17, 126 students were given a pizza party at the Anderson Community Center because they met goal two of their reading challenge this year. A great time was had by all.

Friday, Jan. 24, the elementary will celebrate Go Texan Day at school with Rodeo Relays and students will dress in their western attire. The teachers will also have a chili cook-off the same day.

Tuesday, Jan. 28, is the 100th day of school so if you see a lot of “little old ladies and gentlemen” entering the school that morning, don’t be concerned. It’s just the students dressed up as octogenarians for the 100th day.

The Grimes County Health Resource Center will present a free workshop “Let’s Get Healthy” at the Senior Center on Main Street in Anderson. This workshop will be presented every Friday starting at 10:30 a.m. from Jan. 31 to Feb. 28. Don’t miss out on this “free” opportunity to “get healthy!”
