St. Mary’s Catholic Church offers a program called “GriefShare.” This Fall’s session will be offered every Tuesday from 10 a.m. until noon, beginning Sept. 10 and running through Dec.10 in Room 202 in the Family Life Center. It welcomes all who have experienced a loss of a loved one in their life. The foundation for the program is based on community, understanding, support and encouragement. The facilitators understand and have experienced what you are currently going through. They are there to offer comfort and encouragement during this difficult time while sharing the knowledge to help you move forward. GriefShare teachings are biblical based on grief and recovery topics. Everyone is welcome and you do not need to be Catholic to attend.

This program is offered before the holidays each year since that is one of the toughest times to get through your loss. People from all over Grimes County have attended and benefited from the program. It is well worth the effort to attend. Although the time of the session may be difficult for those to attend who work, you can be assisted in other ways. For more information or to register, call Gail at the office, 936-894-2223, or stop by the church office.

Fr. Ed Kucera of St. Mary’s would like to thank everyone who came out or supported this year’s Labor Day Sunday homecoming and bazaar in any way. There were 32 prizes on the raffle so I will only list the winners: Mike Zettle, Rodney Sydlik, Maria Hopkins, Nancy Schlottman, Robbie Stephens, Tom Richey, Gene Colbert, Cole Pospisil, Billy Mitchell, the Hudgin’s, the Wyart family won two prizes, Nora Galik, Jim Disser, Stan Haydel, Pat Rooney, Connie Macaluso, Linda Harris, Brandi Rice, Patty Wheeler, Sandy Taylor, Eddie Wallace, Linda Wagner, Scott Walker, Paul and Jodi Territo, Mario Ramon, Andrew Wishkowski, Ann Dowell, Koala Kare Day Care, Terry Licce, Ron Carroll and Betsy Heinemann.

The 4-H Pecan Sales began Sept. 1 and will end the first of October. So be sure and get those pecans and walnuts ordered for your holiday baking as soon as possible.

They include: Chairman – Chyna Williams; First Vice Chairman – Katherine Waitz; Second Vice Chairman – Alexis Ostigin; Third vice president – Drew Wagner; Secretary – Ariana Gonzalez; Parliamentarian & historian – Adrianna Chapman; and Delegate at large – JaColby Matthews.

Another quote from my “Joys of Friendship” book: “A friend can tell how your day has been by the way you say ‘hello.’”
