Grimes County Fair begins June 1

The Michael E. De-Bakey VA Medical Center will hold a hiring fair June 4, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. for Advanced Medical Support Assistants, Registered Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants.

Deepest sympathy and prayers for all in the Uvalde shooting. So many lives were lost and so much sorrow in a senseless killing. May God give comfort and peace to each family.

A Youth Gala Night will be held Saturday, July 9, from 4-8 p.m., at The Place of Grace, 8658 CR 313 in Plantersville. For more information contact Apostle Otis Greenwood, 936-672- 5192. Tickets are $20 per couple, $10 for singles. Formal attire will be worn.

7D Ranch, 2729 CR 305 in Navasota is hosting a benefit for Gabriel Goode Saturday, June 18, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Gabriel is a five-year-old boy that was diagnosed with Hepatoblastoma, a rare form of liver cancer that attacks one in a million children. Barbecue plates will be available for $10. There will be vendors, music, a bounce house and more. The City of Navasota is hosting the third annual Freedom Festival Friday, July 1, in downtown Navasota. The event will include the annual Fourth of July Parade, live music, fireworks, and family fun. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. at Brosig Avenue and will travel west on Washington Avenue to 9th Street. Participation in the parade is free and does not require registration. Participants can begin lining up at 5 p.m. on Brosig Avenue.

The Brown Sugar Band will take the stage outside of Navasota City Hall at 7 p.m., and vendors will be on site for food and beverage purchase. Fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m. and will be launched by Brule Field. Fireworks may be viewed downtown or at Brule Field. Gates will open at 8 p.m.

Grimes County Fair Ranch Rodeo is Friday, June 10 at Grimes County Fairgrounds beginning at 6:30 p.m. Events include pasture roping, mugging and branding.
