If you have not been to the annual Relay for Life celebration, I would encourage you to add that to your calendar next year. Kay Harris and Trisha Tate Harris, a White Hall resident, lead these efforts to honor people affected by cancer. I have said many times but seeing all the luminaire bags with names of people that I knew and the survivors that I know can be sad. However, when you see those bags lit up after dark, it is a beautiful sight.

Brenda Storey and I helped out members of Grimes County VFW Post 4006 Auxiliary at Relay for Life. Brenda is very faithful helping with this event, and I try to assist where I can for a few hours. Even though there was a little precipitation and lots of wind, it was well worth it. At one time there were 1,200 bags to be placed around the city hall and people were still purchasing bags. Anderson-Shiro Junior High Honor Society assisted us. They saved my back. We got the alphabet confused a few times and had readjust the bags. The students did not seem to mind. I want to personally thank this group for their help.

Five auxiliary members attended the District 17 VFW meeting in Jewitt. I have never been there, but Brenda drove and took us down the scenic route. The meeting was good. New officers were elected for the 202324 year and it already looks to be a good year. If you are interested in joining the auxiliary or are a member, we would enjoy having you attend.

Burleson County Softball League president expressed her apology for the scheduling mistake for Sunday’s game. It was changed and not all teams were notified. Once she realized that the players were from Grimes County, where she was born and raised, she wanted to speak with parents to make amends.

Grimes Health Resource Center is opening a community clothes closet at the resource center. Clothes and shoe donations are accepted. A grand opening is being scheduled for May. Pastor Kevin Broyhill is coming from North Carolina to minister to folks of Grimes County at Union Grove Baptist Church, 15301 FM 362, in Navasota. There will be three evenings, April 26-28, of wonderful Bible based teaching. Brother Kevin brings his unique North Carolina style of preaching.

Iola will host their first Iola Community Artisans/Farmers Market April 29. Currently they have 43 vendors committed. If there is enough support, the town will continue to have these markets thru November of this year on the fourth Saturday of the month. For more information visit https://fb.me/e/13WwLmVym.
