Panthers return to school

Richards Panthers began their first day of school Aug. 26. There is much activity going on in and around school since the Panthers have begun their new school year. Hope everyone had a nice summer break. Welcome Back Panthers!

If you are out traveling be careful as children are getting on and off the school bus. Always remember to stop for these school buses and always watch for students. Slowdown in school zones now that school is in session.

Congratulations to Joy Montgomery of Richards, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robin Montgomery. She recently accepted a position as Executive Director of the Heritage Museum of Montgomery County which is in Conroe. Joy and her beautiful daughter Katy moved back home to Richards from Tennessee this spring. Welcome back!! Katy is attending school at RISD and we are so glad she is back!

The Richards and W.E. Hall Alumni Scholarship held a musical Friday, Aug, 20 at Bethel Grove Baptist Church in Anderson. Rev. Johnny Williams and sis Annette Lewis, class of 1981 served as chairwoman.

This week there were many flags flying in Montgomery between Aug. 23 through 25, as Texas Flag Celebration was held Saturday, Aug. 24,. Joy Montgomery was on hand to give a presentation on women in the Republic and beyond at the event. There were many speakers for this celebration. Pat Spackey was another speaker and great, great, great, granddaughter of Charles B Stuart and “The Design of the Texas Flag and early days of Montgomery.”

Tom Cox, associate pr ofessor of History from Sam Houston State University, also gave a

“Presentation of the Lone State Banner, and Flags of the Texas Revolution.” Many speakers and presentations were enjoyed. Beau Rouse also had hour long free tours of homes and buildings at this very fun and special event. Residents and businesses had flags all over town.

Richards & W E Hall held an Alumni banquet at the American Legion Hall in Anderson Aug. 24. Speaker was Sis Brandi Addison and a barbecue dinner was served.

On Aug. 25, the Richards and W.E. Hall Alumni Scholarship concluded their three

day event with a service at First Baptist Church in Richards with Rev. Jimmy Lawrence from Hills Chapel as the guest speaker. Host pastor was Rev. L.L. Dunbar.

Deepest sympathy to the family of Cecil Schroeder. Please keep her family in your prayers.

Please keep our President and our entire country in your prayers. Please pray for the family of Cecil Douglas Schroeder, and for all of those who have lost loved ones. Pray for the sick and the shut ins and please continue to pray for healing for Tere Phelps,
