Glen Love has been employed by Grimes County Sheriff’s Office for nearly 20 years. He has run the diversion crew for many of those years and has decided to retire at age 75 effective Aug. 31. Before employment at the Sheriff’s Office, Glen worked for TDCJ for over 20 years. A retirement party and lunch for Glen was held at the Sheriff’s Office Aug. 25. He was presented with a shotgun, plaques, retirement cash, and many cards expressing well wishes. Former co-workers, family and friends also spoke in his honor. It was a wonderful tribute to a great man. I got to work with Glen and his crews through the 16 years I was Mayor of Anderson. He was always at my beckoned call during times of emergencies. I can never repay him for his services and his kindness. No matter what the issue was, Glen always put on his million-dollar smile.

This past week was filled with sadness with the loss of several people we know. John Bertling, 85, of Iola, died Aug. 22. He was Grimes County Commissioner Pct. 1 from 2005-2012. His funeral service was Saturday.

A dear friend of my family, Imogene Giesinger, 90, of Dobbin, also died Aug. 22. Imogene and her late husband Edgar, along with others, founded the Sam Houston Trail Riders Association in 1955 that homed out of Montgomery for many years. She was also my second-grade teacher in Montgomery. She taught for many years at Montgomery and Conroe ISD’s before she went into administration. She eventually had a school, Giesinger Elementary, named after her in the Conroe school district.

Joanne Floyd, 72, the wife of Ronnie Floyd, of Roans Prairie died Aug. 24. Joanne and I worked together many years selling memberships and raffle tickets for the Grimes County Poor Boys organization when it was in existence. Funeral services for both Imogene and Joanne were held Tuesday, Aug. 29. Condolences to all their family and friends who will miss them tremendously.
