Since Valentine’s Day fell on Monday this year, I delivered Valentine packages Saturday to my grandkids nearby. I made cupcakes and Rice Krispy treats for their bags and threw a few other things in there as well as a little cash. I was trying to think of something else to do and at the last minute and I remembered what Abbygail, Brooklyn and Luke love most. So, I looked in my refrigerator and yes, I had a head of cabbage. They love my boiled cabbage, so I quickly cooked it up. Colton doesn’t like cabbage but is always asking if I have any gum so that’s what he got instead of cabbage. Everyone loved their gifts. I’m sure not many kids in this world got boiled cabbage from their grandmother for Valentine’s Day. And then there is Case. Since he just turned 1-year-old I’ll have to wait a bit to see if chooses the cabbage or gum or maybe both! Happy Valentine’s Day (a bit late) to each and every one.

February 8 was a sad day for me as I heard the news of Josephine Gaetz Swonke of Plantersville passing away. Josephine just turned 100 years old on Dec. 14, 2021 and enjoyed every minute of her entire life. After their husbands died, Josephine and her sister Elizabeth, who turned 101 in August 2021, were together at every event around the community. They loved going to dances, listening to the music and watching people dance and even dance sometimes themselves. Josephine was an inspiration to me and so many who knew and loved her dearly. Go to the Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home website and read her obituary. You will clearly see how she enjoyed life and life was good to her.
