Cemetery Association meeting Sept. 5

The annual meeting of the Martins Prairie Church Cemetery Association will be held at Martins Prairie Missionary Baptist Church Sunday, Sept. 5, beginning at 10:30 a.m. All that have family members buried in the cemetery or have an interest in the Keith community are invited to attend. A variety of business will be discussed and taken care of. The Davis family will give a history of their family and its ties to the community. There will be a covered dish meal served to all present. Do make plans to attend. There was no meeting last year because of COVID-19. Hopefully all will try to attend.

Graveside services were held at Martins Prairie Cemetery Monday, Aug. 16, for Jack Raymond Wilder who passed away Friday, Aug. 6. He was born Oct. 21, 1932 in Silsbee to a large family. He was married to Mary Jane Keith, the daughter of Rev. Harley and Winnie Keith in 1955. He pastored several small Baptist churches, taught high school and worked as an industrial electrician for most of his life. At the time of his death he and his wife lived in Henderson. Do remember his wife and other family members in your prayers.

Leah Watkins was baptized at Evergreen Baptist Church Sunday, Aug. 15, by the churches pastor, Rev. Jeff Morgan, at the close of the morning service. She was saved at the churches Pineywoods Camp this summer. Best wishes to her.

There will be a Back to School Bash at Evergreen Baptist Church on Wednesday, Aug. 25, from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. There is fun for the entire family and there will be great food. Some food is free, and some will be sold. There will be great fellowship and games. All are invited to attend. Hopefully there will be a full house.

Several area children either left for college or will be leaving soon. May God bless them as they set out on a new phase in their lives.

The monthly meeting of the Keith Civic Club will be held at the Keith Community Center Thursday, Aug. 26. The meeting will begin with a covered dish meal at 6:30 p.m. and the business meeting will follow. All are invited to attend. Come out and visit with your friends and neighbors.

Rufus “Mac” McBride and I celebrated our birthdays a day early on Sunday, Aug. 15, at the McBride home with a full house of family members and friends present. A meal of all sorts of good eats and desserts were served to approximately 15 that attended. Some of the children even went swimming in the pool. All had a wonderful time.

Davis, Ty Madison Martindale. Do hope your special day was a happy one.

Happy anniversary this week to Dexter and Mary Macha Lavender, married on Aug. 26, 1972. Do join me in wishing them many more years of happiness together.
