My mother, Dolores Hoffart of Dobbin, died two years ago in January of 2020. My sisters and I are finally taking on the task of cleaning out her closets. If you knew my mother, you know she was very unique and one-of-a-kind. Because my parents owned a general merchandise store for 54 years, my mother had no time to shop, so most of her clothes were mail-ordered. Online ordering didn’t exist. Many items came from Sears, Montgomery Ward, J.C. Penney or Blair’s and a few other off brand names. We recently finished the first closet and have three more.

The first closet was a bit overwhelming but once we got going it was a lot of fun. For those that knew her, she always dressed to a tee from head to toe. She had a note pinned to each outfit noting what earrings, necklace, bracelet, shoes and purse she wore with that particular outfit. Some of the notes were quite comical. We all got what we wanted then I let others come by and pick out what they wanted. The rest of closet one went to St. Mary’s Rummage Sale. I recently wore a couple of her jackets or blouses and got compliments on my attire. I proudly said, it was my Mama’s.
